The Saga of Egil

The story of the Viking-Poet. Egil Skallagrimsson (910-990) is one of the strongest and most memorable characters of early Icelandic history. A gifted poet as well as a fierce Viking, he and his family fought a long and bitter feud with the Norwegian royal family, coming to a climax when Egil saved his head by composing a eulogy to the king.
